This special treat was made as made contribution to the classroom Valentine’s party at The Nerdling’s school. They had a blast and loved the pizza. One of the moms brought it mini cheesecakes (not Valentine themed, but really yummy!) and some red punch another mom brought in some mini red velvet cookies.
Yes, this is the exact same pizza I made for the Super Bowl a couple weeks ago (that I claimed is from Gus). But that’s ok. It’s really more about the design of the pizza than the pizza itself. I included the recipe again in this blog:
Pizza Dough Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cup warm water
- 1 pkg yeast
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 Tbl shortening
- 1 tsp salt
Dissolve the yeast in the water while you prepare the other ingredients. Mix them together (I use a Kitchen Aid mixer) and then add the water. Allow time to rise. Roll dough into desired shape…
- Tomato sauce
- Italian seasoning (if desired)
Shape the dough into heart. Throw on whatever toppings you desire. Pepperoni gives a nice reddish heart color! Mozzarella cheese would make a nice white contrast, but I used a “pizza mix” of mozzarella and cheddar. For a Valentine heart, I like to make it with a pretty design.
Throw it in a 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Watch it during the last few minutes till it cooks the way you like it. My recipe made enough dough for 2 heart pizzas. It’s best to cook them separately to make sure they cook all the way through
The verdict? Still good. I used a heaping 1/4 cup of sugar, so it was a bit sweeter than last time. I was very okay with that. I also topped it with Italian seasoning which I think helps considerably.
Is there something kinda dark about eating a heart? Even as a pizza? Comment me!
