From the moment she entered with a simple, “Good morning” in a charming British accent, she had the audience. I was not particularly close to the stage, but large screens provided us with a good view of her on stage. An interviewer took a few minutes to ask her questions of his own before opening it up to the audience.
At the time of the interview, only the first episode of Series 9 had been on the air. However, the entire season has already been filmed. Which means, sadly, that at the time of the interview, Jenna was no longer on Doctor Who. She leaves the series at the end of the season due largely to the fact that Coleman is going to be staring as the young Queen Victoria in an upcoming miniseries. When asked if she would ever consider coming back to play Clara again, Coleman cryptically responded, “You’ll need to wait and see how I leave the show” to which the audience gave many “Oooooooohs!”
Another amusing response came to the question of “Which did you like working with better, Matt Smith or Peter Capaldi?” Jenna stated, “How am I supposed to answer that? They are both good friends of mine and they both have my number. I thoroughly enjoyed working with both of them equally.”
One young fan even asked her how she got her part in Captain America: The First Avenger. It was because she auditioned! Crazy right? That means that both Clara Oswald and Amy Pond (Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy) are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
From start to finish, the adorable Jenna Coleman was charming, engaging and polite. It was easy to see why she made such a great addition to the Doctor Who family. I look forward to seeing what else she has in store for the future.
